The majority of men jailed in Maricopa County, Arizona, today are Hispanic, according to the Arizona Republic's JJ Hensley. The shift marks a demographic direction turn after the population of jailed Caucasian males, which grew for more than a decade, began dropping over the past five years. The shift was attributed to overall population trends, as well as the targeting of illegal immigrants.
Hispanics in county jails are not in the country illegally, most illegal immigrants who have been jailed through immigration crackdowns are Hispanic.
